Press release from The Academy at Shotton Hall, Peterlee - 11 March 2013

Durham Commissioner hears ideas from Shotton Hall Student Council

The Academy played host to a very special visitor today as Ron Hogg, Police and Crime Commissioner for County Durham met with our student council to hear their ideas to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the region.

As everyone knows, our school council always have plenty to say and they eagerly told Ron about how antisocial behaviour affects them and what they thought the solutions might be.

Ron is a time-served police officer with 30 years' experience in the force and was elected as commissioner for Durham in November 2012. The students thought he was a good listener and hopefully some of their great ideas will help Ron with his job of making the region a better place for everyone.

Members of the local residents' group also met with Ron and the student council and were impressed by the maturity and awareness of the students and their insights into why crimes are committed and what can be done to stop them.

Well done to everyone involved!
