Ron Hogg was pleased to launch the opening of the new unit of Cornerstone yesterday in Willington and is proud of the achievements made so far. Well done to all involed.
Cornerstone’s aims are the relief of poverty, hardship and distress by the provision of accommodation support, positive social inclusion and counselling for vulnerable people who are homeless or in acute housing distress in the North East of England. Cornerstone began in June 2010 as a not-for-profit company Ltd by guarantee; the charity achieved full charitable status in February 2012.
Cornerstone engages people who are homeless and those most at risk of becoming homeless and socially excluded, including ex-offenders. They provide services within the North East of England, in particular County Durham. They offer a variety of supported accommodation including crash pads, emergency accommodation, supported independent living and full independent living.
Cornerstone offers retail training through their mobile stall where they sell the products created in the workshop to small businesses and members of the local community. The stall also acts as an outreach tool to raise awareness and promote their cause enabling them to liaise with the community to gather feedback and encourage social inclusion.
