KINDNESS in our communities is being encouraged this month, in the latest campaign held throughout October.
‘Celebrating diversity’ is the theme of the campaign, to encourage people of all ages to show kindness and respect to others and to welcome the diversity within local communities.
Ron Hogg, Durham’s Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner for County Durham and Darlington, is leading the campaign. He said:
“I hold a number of public campaigns throughout the year and I wanted to host one which particularly focuses on tolerance and kindness. I want our communities to continue to be places that are fair and tolerant, with a strong local culture where everyone can feel safe.
“My campaign isn’t in response to any one incident or crime, or local or national event. It is to remind people that every person has a role to play in respecting others. It is disappointing that some people still act in a derogatory way and even commit crimes against people just because of the way they are.
“Regardless if someone has a disability, or a different faith, sexuality or gender identity for example, we should all strive to celebrate how diverse our communities are.”
Residents are being encouraged to share social media posts about Ron’s campaign. Just search for ‘Durham PCC’ on Facebook and Twitter throughout October.
