A new Young Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner (PCVC) has been elected to represent young people in County Durham and Darlington.

Libby Wright, a 16 year old student from Stanley, who is studying at Durham Sixth Form Centre, was elected by Police Cadets. Libby takes over the role from Nathan Gaskill, who was elected as the first Young PCVC last year.

Libby will speak for young people on a number of public occasions and campaigns during 2017, and she will also have a budget of £20,000 for projects to enable young people to help improve community safety.

In her manifesto, Libby indicated that she would give priority to:

  • Reducing re-offending
  • Tackling cybercrime
  • Addressing the impact of Child Sexual Exploitation and Domestic Abuse in all its forms
