The Office of Durham’s Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner (PCVC) will shortly be under new leadership following the appointment of Steve White as Ron Hogg’s Chief Executive this week.

Steve was national Chair and Vice Chair of the Police Federation for 5 years, during which time he led the organisation through an extensive programme of change. He liaised and negotiated daily with Government Ministers, Chief Constables and Police and Crime Commissioners in that post. For the past year he has been leading a nationwide police transformation project for the Home Office.

Ron Hogg said: "Steve has demonstrated outstanding leadership in his career, often working in complex environments, challenging and making the case for change. I am confident that he will make an excellent Chief Executive and look forward to him supporting me to make County Durham and Darlington a safer place to live and work.”

Ron added "I would like to take the opportunity to thank my previous Chief Executive, Alan Reiss, for the excellent work he undertook for the office, for a wide partnership of organisations, and for the people of County Durham and Darlington. I wish him well in his new post with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Steve White said: "The role of Chief Executive is crucial to enabling the PCVC to discharge his responsibilities effectively. I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to support him in making a difference to residents of County Durham and Darlington, and influencing the national agenda. I look forward to working with partners and members of the community to help the PCVC to deliver his priorities."

Steve’s appointment was considered by the Durham and Darlington Police and Crime Panel this week. Councillor Lucy Hovvels, who chairs the Panel, said “Panel members were unanimous in agreeing that Steve is an excellent appointment to this role, and we look forward to working with him.”

As Chief Executive, Steve White will also perform the statutory function of Monitoring Officer for the Office of the PCVC. He expects to take up his duties early in 2019.
