Policing Priorities

Vision, Outcomes and Policing Priorities for 2013-17


Vision and outcomes:

The Police and Crime Plan reflects the PCC's vision for the policing of County Durham and Darlington, which is:

"To achieve excellence in local policing and the highest levels of public confidence by working alongside 

PCC The PCC with officers in Darlington

communities and partners to address what matters locally"

As part of that vision, The PCC wants to achieve the following 


  • Making local communities and the victims of crime feel empowered through:
    • involving them in the design/redesign of local police and crime services
    • listening to their feedback in the evaluation of service delivery
    • defining services that match the needs our communities have identified for us

- All of this is underpinned by his personal commitment to work with and for our communities.

  • Maximising the benefits of partnerships through the use of innovative shared working arrangements to tackle and prevent crime at its source.
  • Using our resources intelligently

    to ensure what we do is both efficient and effective.


Policing Priorities:

Through the Plan, the PCC is tasking the Chief Constable to focus on the following areas:

Personal and Community Priorities
Personal priorities as set out in PCC's manifesto:Community priorities voted for by the public:
  • to reduce the impact of domestic abuse, particularly violence against women and girls
  • to tackle anti-social behaviour
  • to reduce the impact of hate crime
  • to tackle the harm caused to individuals and communities by alcohol and drugs
  • to improve engagement with local communities across the Constabulary area
  • to improve road safety by tackling careless and dangerous driving, speeding and other related road safety issues
  • to make our policing services visible and accessible at all times
