In October 2015, the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner's Office(OPCC) was one of the first OPCCs to receive national recognition for its transparency.

The Transparency Quality Mark from CoPaCC, who monitor police governance, was awarded by its Chief Executive Bernard Rix to nine OPCCs from around the country at a ceremony in London.

Durham OPCC have continued to retain the CoPaCC Transparency Quality Mark ever since, marking six years running as of 2020-21.
