The Rape Scrutiny Panel was introduced by the Durham PCC to reflect a commitment to ensuring the best possible response to victims of rape.
The Rape Scrutiny Panel (the Panel) was introduced by the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner to reflect a commitment to ensuring the best possible response to victims of rape.
Similar to the Domestic Abuse Scrutiny Panel, the Panel comprises members from across County Durham and Darlington with knowledge, experience and understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on victims.
The Panel meets three or four times a year to critically examine a sample of cases. Cases are selected by the Independent Chair of the Panel and scrutinised within a framework that enables systematic examination in a way that takes full account of the contributions and perspectives of panel members both individually and collectively. The purpose of this is to support a consistent, coherent and credible approach that results in evidence-based recommendations for positive change.
The panel also looks at recent developments in policy and research, findings and recommendations from other relevant reports as well as feedback from victims on what constitutes a thorough and effective police response to domestic abuse.
